Executive of the Month of April: Amana Noreen

We’re thrilled to spotlight Amana Noreen, one of our events co-directors at the Ontario branch of HNP Canada as the executive of the month of April!

“Hi! My name is Amana, and I’m a grade 12 student at John Fraser Secondary School. As one of the three events co-directors at HNP Ontario, I help organise and lead in-person community events like cleanups, tree plantings, and invasive plant species removals. These events empower Ontarians to take action in protecting their local environment and contribute to a more sustainable future!”

When asked about why she joined HNP, she shared:
“I first collaborated with HNP on an EcoAnxiety Panel in September 2023 through another organisation. After that, I began following their work more closely and was inspired by the team’s passion for community engagement and environmental advocacy. I officially joined HNP in June 2024 because I’ve always been drawn to giving back—whether through building community, creating opportunities for others, or protecting the environment. Since then, I’ve been so grateful for the space HNP provides for growth, leadership, and support.”

Here’s what Amana’s currently working on with her team:
“I’m planning an upcoming community clean-up and invasive plant species removal event in partnership with Toronto Nature Stewards! Events like this bring people together, encourage sustainability, and make a real difference in our local ecosystems.”

Amana also shared what she loves most about being part of HNP:
“My favourite part of HNP is the positive, tight-knit community. Despite having a large executive team, everyone is connected, supported, and recognised for what they bring to the table. It’s an environment that values different perspectives and sparks leadership, energy, and collaboration.”

She’s especially excited about one event in particular:
“I’m really looking forward to our tree-planting event this June. After a long time indoors, it’ll be so refreshing to spend time in nature, connect with the community, and make a tangible impact!”

An environmental issue that drives her passion is urbanisation:
“I’ve seen cities transform vibrant green land into buildings and roads. While development is necessary, it often comes at the cost of habitat loss, waste, and resource depletion. I believe it’s crucial to address the speed of urbanisation to preserve natural spaces and promote long-term sustainability.”

Fun fact: In her free time, Amana loves creating art—she enjoys experimenting with acrylics, watercolours, and ink!
