Putting Funds to Good Use: $1000 A.P.E. Fund
The Jane Goodall Institute in Canada launched the Animals, People, and the Environment (A.P.E.) fund Program in 2017 with the purpose of granting funds to high-needs Roots & Shoots projects all over Canada. As members of Roots & Shoots, Human Nature Projects (HNP) Canada was able to apply for the 2024-2025 A.P.E. fund of $1,000. The project we applied with is our upcoming, highly anticipated and exciting Pollinator Garden virtual workshop and in-person community engagement event! After our application, the Jane Goodall Institute granted us the $1,000 to support our community based project!
The workshop is in partnership with the Canadian Wildlife Federation, with the purpose of exploring a variety of ways to support pollinators and other wildlife in our neighbourhoods and backyards. Attendees will see that gardening with wildlife in mind is versatile, with options that can suit any lifestyle, budget, or garden type while protecting certain key species. Guest speaker Sarah Coulber, a gardening for wildlife specialist at the Canadian Wildlife Federation will speak about the Canadian pollinators that help produce everything from apples and blueberries, to canola and clover. As well as the ways habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change threaten their populations.
The in-person community event is in partnership with Oakvile Green, Analia Tichikova and Mukhnaam Kaur, and promises great experiential learning of planting, maintaining, and understanding pollinator gardens. The goal of which is to prioritize plants that attract and support species like bees and monarch butterflies that support the life of many other plants and wildlife in the area, while also fostering a sustainable ecosystem.
Thank you Jane Goodall Institute for funding our project and making this environmental effort possible! Make sure to look out on the HNP Instagram and Linkedin for updates and more information!
